A book by Anna Karamanou that every woman should read.

An exciting historical journey starting from the Revolution of 1821 and culminating in the pandemic and the MeToo movement of 2021 is penned by Anna Karamanou in her new book.
Her book “The Peaceful Uprising of Female SAPIENS 1821-2021” has won an award from the Academy of Athens and is published by Armos Editions.
As the author notes, it is addressed: “particularly to women, especially of the younger generation. Because it provides the essential historical elements of the 200 years that are intertwined, directly or indirectly, with the liberating process of women’s human rights and gender justice. It is important to know how, within the specific historical and political conditions, the struggles of a few brave, educated women have shaped our lives. The history of feminist struggles was written by small groups of pioneering women, under conditions of harsh patriarchy.”

The silenced feminist struggles
Major historical events, the role of political and military leadership, triumphs and national disasters, the role of women, and the ideas that shaped modern Greece are recorded in detail.
Amidst the clamor of politics and historical events, we witness the peaceful uprising of female sapiens, who, under the banner of universal values, claim their fundamental human rights and gender justice.
– What was the influence of European and Neo-Hellenic Enlightenment?
– What is the role of the Greek diaspora and the West?
– What was the dynamic participation of women in the victorious struggle against the Ottoman Empire and in subsequent wars?
“I deliberately use the term ‘sapiens,’ which means wise, prudent, sensible, intelligent, knowledgeable. Just as these are the fundamental characteristics of the human species (homo sapiens), which has two genders of equal value, male and female! The female has been undervalued throughout the historical trajectory of humanity. The issue of women’s rights and the theory that accompanies it has been the issue and struggle of half the human gender, the female sapiens who had the courage to rebel and challenge the dominance of males, along with the social stereotypes and irrationality that accompany it,” clarifies the author.
The book by Anna Karamanou, “The Peaceful Uprising of Female SAPIENS 1821-2021,” offers ample material for pride and tears, reflection and self-awareness! It provides essential historical and political knowledge about the 200 years of the modern Greek nation-state that every Greek man and woman needs to possess.
