Dear Elpida,

I greatly wished to attend the significant event you are organizing with the dynamic women of Chios and to have the opportunity to address you personally with a few words for today’s anniversary. However, my absence does not prevent me from greeting your event today and congratulating the women of Chios for elevating a worthy woman like you to Parliament.

As you know, today the Women’s Sector of PASOK is organizing an event at Zappeion with the theme ‘’EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY’’ and the main slogan is ‘’It’s time to Live TOGETHER with Inspiration and Imagination’’ .

Our Sector dedicates this year’s anniversary to the vision and struggle of women to uphold human values on the planet, prioritizing the protection of life and the environment by political leaders, establishing dialogue as the only means of resolving differences, combating poverty, ensuring fair distribution of wealth, and transforming the culture of violence into a culture of peace and respect for all differences, whether racial, political, or religious.

Our main goal is to broaden the scope of women’s actions to include the struggle for peaceful coexistence among peoples, at a time when the clouds of war are once again gathering over the Balkans.

Particularly for us women, it is our duty to contribute significantly to the meeting of cultures in our region, to create democratic channels of communication and cooperation, and in a time when migration flows are impacting our country, to help build a modern Greek society that respects human rights and the fundamental freedoms of all citizens, regardless of social or national origin, gender, race, or religious belief.

At the same time, during this year’s March 8, we also invite men to join the fight for gender equality and renew their outdated male identity, which is summed up in the famous slogan “men don’t cry” and encourages violence and aggression in the private and public spheres.

The case for gender equality and the creation of a democratic, open, and just society must be won, as it is beneficial for everyone.

I sincerely wish you every success in your event today.

With warm regards,

ANNA KARAMANOU
