Gang-rape of women by British soldiers in Kenya

Recently, the allegations of 650 women from the town of Isiolo in Eastern Kenya, who were victims of rape, often gang rape, by British soldiers, came to light. There is a British Army base in the area where training exercises are held every year. According to the allegations, the rapes date back to 1977, and despite being informed, the British Ministry of Defence did not intervene. As a result of these rapes, many women gave birth to mixed-race children and live on the margins, ostracized by their families. The majority of these women, with financial assistance from their country, have filed lawsuits and are seeking compensation. The following causes outrage and indignation:
– The sexual abuse of these women as a form of entertainment, particularly by European citizens,
– The complete lack of respect for their physical and mental integrity,
– The price paid by both the women and their children, with their marginalization and rejection by their families for an event they were not responsible for.
The Committee is asked whether it will intervene to clarify this case, to ensure that the Kenyan women are morally and materially compensated, and to ensure that those responsible are punished as an example. Furthermore, what measures does it intend to take in order to prevent similar incidents of sexual violence and abuse against women in the future, which are a blatant violation of their human rights?
