Global Mobilization to Prevent the War in Iraq
Statement by Anna Karamanou regarding the global mobilization to prevent the war in Iraq | 17/02/2003 |
The good side of globalization! Unprecedented mobilization and global coordination to prevent the war.
I wonder if the message was received by the United States, as well as by those who rushed to align themselves with them in a war for oil and more.
Our thoughts today are focused on Brussels and the Emergency Summit convened by the Greek Presidency, in a desperate attempt to prevent the war against Iraq, to uphold UN Resolution 1441, and, finally, for Europe to speak with a unified, strong, and clear voice, as the overwhelming majority of European citizens desire.
The Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality of the European Parliament has already stated in a press release its strong opposition to a potential war, in violation of international law and UN resolutions.
Europe today is being judged by whether it presents a youthful, alternative model of political intervention and conflict resolution through political and peaceful means, as opposed to the old, arteriosclerotic logic of violence and militarism.
