«Gender in pandemic and post-crisis Governance»
The Gender Studies Laboratory of Panteion University, within the framework of the Progender project, is organizing an online lecture on Monday, June 14, 2021 (at 6 PM) by Dr. Anna Karamanou, former Member of the European Parliament and President of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM). The lecture will be conducted in English.
The lecture will analyze the pioneering role of women leaders in managing the pandemic. Notable examples include Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solmberg, and Taiwanese President Tsai Ing Wen, all of whom managed the pandemic in a model way of good governance.
The post-COVID-19 era highlighted the characteristics that distinguished the governance of female heads of state: redesigning social policy and the welfare state, establishing functional health systems everywhere, prevention and solidarity towards vulnerable countries, labor relations, gender mainstreaming and gender budgeting, balanced gender representation in all democratic institutions, public and private centers of power, and decision-making committees, strengthening childcare structures for children and the elderly (70+), funding feminist organizations, addressing climate change, facilitating digital transition, and implementing the European Strategy 2020-2025.
The lecture will be welcomed by the Professor Christina Koulouri. Rector of Panteion University. The coordination will be handled by Maria Stratigaki, Associate Professor at Panteion University and President of the Greek Association of University Women (E.L.E.G.Y.P.).
It will be broadcast via the Zoom platform at the following link:

The ProGender project: A Digital Hub on Gender, the Covid-19 Crisis and its Aftermath, is funded by the Bilateral Relations Fund of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism for the 2014-2021 period (EEA FM 2014–2021), under the Ministry of Development and Investments. EEA grants represent the contribution of Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway to a green, competitive, and inclusive Europe. There are two main goals: reducing economic and social inequalities in Europe and strengthening bilateral relations between the donor countries and 15 EU countries in Central and Southern Europe and the Baltic. The three donor countries work closely with the EU through the European Economic Area (EEA) agreement. For the 2014-2021 period, EEA grants amount to 1.55 billion euros.
