The book by Anna Karamanou was presented in Kyparissia.

The book by Anna Karamanou, “The Peaceful Uprising of Female Sapiens 1821-2021,” published by “Armos,” was presented last Saturday in the “Alekos Papadopoulos” hall in Kyparissia.

It is an original, educational book that fills a gap in the literature and has been awarded by the Academy of Athens. This book offers a different, very interesting historical perspective, where, alongside the knowledge of historical milestones, the struggles of women throughout the 200-year history of the Greek state are highlighted, along with their contributions to historical events and their claims. The book is written in a fluid language, with a rich and thorough style, and its content is well-documented.

The book is important for all of us to read, especially for the younger generation, so that they can reflect, rethink, and utilize, as the author Anna Karamanu says, the sacred legacy of countless and ongoing women’s struggles and claims. Because now more than ever, a new approach to national self-awareness is necessary, where gender justice, as the author rightly emphasizes, will be an essential part of the self-awareness of Greek society, enabling it to move forward with confidence and prudence.

The speakers were: Dr. Ioannis Solaris, a philologist and coordinator of the educational work of philologists at the Regional Center for Educational Planning of the Peloponnese, and an author. Chara Kiouri, a physicist and principal of the 6th High School of Kalamata, a member of the NE Messinia and the Secretariat of the Feminist Politics and Gender Department of SYRIZA, and a member of the Union of Greek Physicists. Katarina Droulia, a philologist from the Kyparissia General Lyceum, a member of the Greek National Section of CIOFF®, the official partner of UNESCO for the safeguarding, promotion, and dissemination of traditional culture and folklore, and the general secretary of the Kyparissia Cultural and Educational Association.

The event was organized by the Community Benefit Enterprise of the Municipality of Trifylia and the Cultural Association of Giannitsainas – Vathi Kyparissias “Agios Dionysios,” in collaboration with the bookstore “Archontariki.”
